Political Perspectives

Campaign Sign

I have always taken my voting rights very seriously. I registered to vote immediately following my 18th birthday and have never missed an opportunity to exercise that privilege. I study each issue thoroughly and have always voted for the candidate who I felt best represented my beliefs, regardless of their party affiliation. I’m an independent thinker whose values, beliefs, ideas and opinions aren’t swayed by the pressure to conform or by a desire to gain the acceptance of my peers. I’m a firm believer that government should operate as our forefathers envisioned: one that is of the people, by the people, and for the people. I believe that politicians are public servants whose loyalties, first and foremost, should be for the citizens they have been elected to represent.

When the state legislature convenes, lobbyists far outnumber politicians. As a result, our elected officials find themselves under constant pressure to surrender to the interests of the groups these lobbyists represent. Many of these groups have contributed, heavily, to various political campaigns with expectations of political favors. I believe that this taints the political idealism that we all want to trust in and creates a government that is of the special interest groups, by the special interest groups, and for the special interest groups. Although this is an accepted method used to influence our elected official at every level of government, I am very much OPPOSED to this practice. When I’m elected, my only loyalties will be to the voters who believed in me.

In the coming weeks, I will be walking the neighborhoods of Assembly District 22 in an effort to meet as many voters as possible. I have a genuine concern for every platform issue that I have addressed on this website, and it’s my desire to listen to the concerns and comments of everyone that I meet.

For those who I may not get the opportunity to meet, please use the e-mail link to let me know what concerns you may have. I will try to respond to every message that I receive. My e-mail address is scott4assembly22@yahoo.com.

Thank you for taking the time to view my website.
